6th Grade Earth Science - Wednesday, May 27th.

 

This will be my final post for this year.  Thank you for tuning in on this homework website to keep track of each day.  Also thank you for the journey through Earth Science this year.  Hopefully, you learned some things about our planet and what we need to do to take care of it.  Our Earth really is a remarkable planet !  

Some of you have asked about honors science for 7th grade.  There are three things I evaluated each student on this year.  Their citizenship, effort in class, and overall academic grade. For overall academic grade they must have ended this school year with a 96% or higher grade.  You can check Parent Portal to see where your child ended.  I was only able to recommend 38 students from our Core A of 165 students.  If you did not qualify Life Science next year will still be challenging and fun.  Thank you for a great year !!  Have a super summer enjoying your break and I will see you next year.   Love,  Mr. Woodward/Earth Science

1. Extra credit is now over.  Thank you for doing a great job on extra credit this year.

2. Your Weather/Climate Newspaper is due at the end of the period tomorrow.  Many of you are doing a fantastic job. Your goal is to keep your 100 points as high as possible.  Work effort in class and final project determines your points.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Friday, May 22nd.

 

1. All extra credit ends today.

2. I will grade your May Agenda on Tuesday.  I will be grading pages 99 to 108.  The May Agenda will be worth 18 points.  Do you have all the current boxes filled in ?

3. Your Weather/Climate Newspaper is due at the end of the period on Wednesday.  You are trying to keep your 100 points for this activity over the next 3 school days.  You must show me progress during each period and a good work ethic.  Be creative !!

2. 6th grade textbook return is today.

3. We are working on our final project for Earth Science.  You will be creating a Weather/Climate Newspaper.  Yesterday I gave you the rubric for this last activity.  You may pick and choose things from the rubric or create your own.  Remember the whole newspaper is about weather and climate.  This final project will be worth 100 points. The due date is next Wednesday.  Have fun !  Be creative !

1. All extra credit ends this Friday.

2. Textbook return for 6th grade is on Wednesday.  All books should be cleaned up at home and brought to school on May 20th.  You will be returning books in Social Studies class with Mrs. Currie.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Thursday, May 14th.

 

1. Tonight study for our final test this year on Oceanography.  We covered two Chapters #'s 12 and 13 Exploring the Oceans and The Movement of Ocean Water.

-- In our textbook we covered pages 400 to 454.

-- In our last science journal we added pages 1 to 16.

-- You may create a study buddy to use on this test. This is worth 5 extra points.

-- A signed note from home telling me how long you studied = 5 extra points.

-- You may use your science journal on the test however, the 89% rule applies.

2. I will be grading your final journal tomorrow.  16 pages X 2 = 32 points for an A+grade.  All pages should be numbered, in the right order, and in your binder or folder.

1. Due tomorrow - complete your notes and vocabulary for 13-2 on Ocean Currents and Climate.  Read pages 444 to 447 as you complete these notes.  You must complete side one for homework.  We will finish side two tomorrow.

2. Our Oceanography Test is on Friday.  We covered Chapters 12 and 13.

3. Your Oceanography Journal is also due on Friday.  We currently have pages 1 to 15 inside our folders or binders.  This is our last journal for this year.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Tuesday, May 12th.

 

1.  Due tomorrow - complete your notes for 13-1 on Ocean Currents.  Read pages 436 to 432 to finish this section.  You must complete side one tonight.  Side two is optional.  You can complete side two in class tomorrow.

2.  Our Oceanography Test is on Friday.  You could begin making a Study Buddy for this test (optional).  If you choose to use your journal the 89% rule will apply.  Remember, this test is on both Chapters 12 and 13.

3.  We will wrap up our study of Oceanography this Thursday.  So Friday will be our Oceanography Test on Chapters 12 and 13.

1.  This week is Science Camp Week.  If you are going to camp you should be packed and ready. We will meet in the Multi-Purpose room by no later than 8:15 am. tomorrow.  If you are not going to camp you have been given your homeroom teacher for the rest of the week.  She will go over your schedule for this week. 2. Tomorrow will be our laptop day on Rates of Weathering.

3. On Friday during your science period I will go over camp details for next week.  I will also talk about packing.  Remember, we are wearing and bringing old clothes for camp.  We will be dressing in three layers -  layer one = t shirt -  layer two = sweat shirt or long sleeves - layer three = heaviest jacket.  We will wear old jeans or sweats and comfortable PE type shoes. We will need a sleeping bag and pillow to put on their beds.  Thank you !!

1. Tonight complete notes 4-3 on Using Material Resources.  Read textbook pages 138 to 143 to finish this section.  We will do the Vocabulary Puzzle tomorrow in class.

1. Due tomorrow - complete your Rock Cycle cut-out.  Glue all 16 pieces down on a piece of paper showing the Rock Cycle.  Pieces need to be placed in the correct position for an A grade.  Use textbook page 105 to help you. Include a title.  I will collect this for a grade tomorrow.

2. Due Friday - complete your line drawing on a Polar Bear in the Bioshpere.  This is on the back of page 18 in your #3 Journal.

-- Study the Water Cycle picture and its parts tonight. This is on the test.

-- Test Extra Credit - a note signed and returned telling me how long you studied. I need a minimum of 20 minutes (+5 points).

-- You may create a Study Buddy to use on the test (optional).

-- You may use your Science Journal on the test. Test grade maximum 89%.

1. Tonight complete Notes 2-1 on Tools and Measurement.  Read pages 44 to 49 in your textbook and then complete side one of your notes.  You will be finishing side two tomorrow.  These notes are page 3 in our Chapter # 2 Journal.

2. We will finish today's classroom activity tomorrow in class.  This was page 2 in your new journal.

3. Have you removed Chapter # 1 Journal pages from your folder ?  If you have not please do so and leave these pages stapled together at home.  Thank you for being organized !!

1. This weekend I need you to empty out your Chapter # 1 Journal pages. Paper clip or staple them together and leave them at home with your Earth Science Book.  You may need them for our end of semester test ?  Today we introduced Chapter #2 with our laptops -  Tools of Earth Science.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Wednesday, September 10th.

 

1. Tonight you are studying for our first test.   We will be taking our Chapter #1 Test tomorrow on   The Nature of Earth Science.

--  In our textbook we read and covered pages 8 to 29.

--  In our Science Journal we added pages 1 to 13.

--  Test extra credit in a signed note from home telling me how long you studied.  You must study for 20 minutes or more for 5 extra credit points on Test # 1.  This is optional.

--  Tomorrow I will be grading your Science Journal for 3 things: 1. Are all the pages completed  2. Are all the pages numbered  3. Are all the pages in order.  If you have done all three your journal should receive an A or A+ grade.

--  Please make sure you bring a # 2 lead pencil to class tomorrow.  Thank you !

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Tuesday, September 9th.

 

1. Complete today's activity titled  Safety in Science.  You must do both sides for full credit.  We will grade this tomorrow and it will become page 13 in your Science Journal.  Our first Journal grade will be on Thursday of this week.  All pages should be numbered, in order. and all completed for an A+ grade.

2. Our first test is on Thursday.  We will be taking our test on Chapter #1 which included 3 sections.  For this first test I will let you use your Science Journal.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Monday, September 8th.

 

1.  Did you complete all of Friday's Activities with Mrs. Rosen.  If not I need you to finish them tonight for homework.  This includes pages 10, 11, and 12 in your Science Journal and your Unit # 1 Title Page from last Thursday.  We will go over them in class tomorrow.  Today was our laptop day on Safety in Science.

2.  Our first Test on Chapter # 1 will be this Thursday.  I will help you get ready on Wednesday.  However you could begin looking back through the 3 sections we have covered :  Thinking Like A Scientist - The Scientific Method - Safety in Science.

1. Complete your Unit # 1 Title Page on the back of page 2 of your Science Journal.  You need one picture or sketch to represent each of the three chapters in Unit # 1.  Please label each picture.  This is due next Tuesday.  Monday will be a laptop day in science.

2.  If you did not finish todays Scientific Method worksheet you may finish this tomorrow in class.

1. Tonight complete your notes for Section 1-2 on the Scientific Methods.  Read the story on pages 16 to 22 and finish the notes for this section.  We will grade this in class tomorrow.

1.  This weekend complete your Scientific Method Chart.  You may create your own or find one to use.  In your textbook use the one on page 17 if you aren't sure.

You may do this on the computer or hand draw one.  Please add a little color to help the way it looks.  This should be ready for class on Tuesday. Thank you !!

2.  Your Science Journal should now have pages 1 to 7 inside. If not please get it organized this weekend.  We will finish page 7 on Tuesday.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Thursday, August 28th.

 

1. Due next Tuesday -  Create a Scientific Method Chart showing the 6 major steps:  1. State the Problem (ask a question)  2. Research - Observations  3. Form A Hypothesis  4. Experiment (test)  5. Form Conclusions  6. Communicate Your Results (why).  You may use the chart on page 17 of your textbook to help you.  This can be done by hand or on the computer.  Some color would help.  You may use the back side of page 5 in your Science Journal or a new piece of paper. Have fun !!

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Wednesday, August 27th.

 

1. Tonight complete the Vocabulary Puzzle for Section 1-1. Use textbook pages 8 to 14 to find these 5 important words and solve the puzzle.  Also on back of this Vocabulary Puzzle complete the Pre-test for Chapter # 1.  Skim through our first chapter and try to answer questions 1 to 9.  Use textbook pages 8 to 29.  Don't spend more than 9 minutes on the Pre-test.  Hypothesis if you are not sure.  Have fun !!

1. Tonight complete your notes for section 1-1 on  Thinking Like A Scientist.  In your textbook read pages 8 to 14 and complete notes 1 to 20.  We will grade this tomorrow in class.

3.  All of you should now have a pleasure reading book checked out from our Library.  Today in Science we visited the Library and learned about the procedures and expectations from Mrs. Taylor.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Friday, August 22nd.

 

1.  Our first extra credit is due on Monday.  This  extra credit is on the back of page # 1 of your Science Journal. Extra credit is optional.

 

2. Today we finished our first week of school.  Congratulations !!   Our Earth Science Journals should now have pages 1 to 3 inside.  We have not finished all 3 pages but we will by the end of next week.

6th Grade Earth Science Homework - Wednesday, August 20th.

 

1.  On side two of last nights homework - Thinking Like A Scientist - there is an extra credit option.  If you would like to interview 5 adults and ask them what they think science is and why it is important now would be the time.  I would need this completed by next week for up to 10 extra points to begin the school year.  This is optional.

2.  Due Friday you will need a secret bag filled with one item.  I demonstrated one today using a brown (no see through) bag.  I placed one small safe item into the bag and then put my first name on the outside.  I am now ready for Fridays class.  Thank you !!
