For our final week of academics in 8th grade Language Arts we will be completing a review activity and film analysis. This is to help transition students into High School English. The worksheet that is being attached is pretty self-explanatory. The film we are watching in class is titled, "Into the Woods." The Power Point and worksheet are both attached. 

Watch the attached video and complete a multi-paragraph summary outlining the speakers main argument, how he supported his argument, and the validity of his argument. 

 

Semester Final: Rudy and Nothing but the Truth

 

For the semester final, students get two full class periods and may work on it at home as well. The final is due on Wednesday, May 13th, at the end of their class period. The questions are below:

 

1. Rudy and Philip both want something in their lives: Rudy wants to play football at Notre Dame and Philip wants to be on his school’s track team. However, they go about their desires differently: explain to me in a minimum of 5-6 well thought out sentences how these two characters approach their dreams. 
2. How do Rudy and Philip deal with rejection and what effect do their actions cause? Cite specific details.
3. What are two distinct lessons that Rudy and Nothing but the Truth teaches us about character? Explain your answer by using specific details.
4. Rudy teaches us that by following your dream with character, discipline, and responsibility you actually gain more than you initially desired. What do you think Rudy actually accomplishes besides playing in a game? Contrastingly, what does Philip accomplish rather than running track? Explain your answer.
5. What is the moral of the story in Rudy? What is the moral of the story in Nothing but the Truth?
6. Out of these two characters, Rudy and Philip, what is one important thing you learned by comparing and contrasting them? Explain in a multi paragraph response.

Turn in a completed Tell Tale Heart Essay on Wednesday. This should be typed and attached to the prompt that was passed out in class. The prompt is below:

 

In a well constructed essay, explain how Edgar Allan Poe utilizes characterization, setting, or conflict in order to create suspense for the reader of The Tell Tale Heart. This essay should contain a thesis statement and several examples from the text to support your argument.

Complete the close reading and analysis of Abigail Adams. This means that the text is annotated, and the questions are all answered in complete sentences, restating the question, and using evidence (quotes) to support your answer.

Students began working on the "Indirect Characterization Project." For this assignment, students will create an original character. On one side of the paper, students will draw an image (colored and outlined) of the character that they created. On the back, write a narrative describing some action that the character is involved in using Indirect Characterization.

The final draft of "The Circuit" Essay is due on Wednesday. This essay must be:
