Journal questions are an ongoing assignment throughout the year. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday students will be required to respond to a journal prompt at the beginning of class. Each entry must be at least one full paragraph to half a page. Students will record their journal responses in a spiral notebook designated only for journal writing.

Conflict Writing Prompt

Directions: Please complete the following assignment on a sheet of lined paper in pencil. This writing assignment needs to be at least one page long. Please do not skip lines.

Definitions of Conflict:
External Conflict: a character struggles against a person, a group, or a force of
nature (earthquake, hurricane, a bear etc.)

Internal Conflict: a struggle in one’s mind, like being shy or accepting the death
of a loved one.

Please respond to the following prompt:
Write about a time in your life when you were involved in a conflict. It can be an INTERNAL conflict or an EXTERNAL conflict.
 What started the conflict? What type of challenges did this conflict create? Was
it resolved? How?
 Take time to describe the situation: Who, What, When, Where, Why.
 Remember that the best writing makes the reader feel as if they are a part of the
